CSR Report and Annual Report 2014

Content and boundary of the report

Veikkaus’ 2014 report is a combined Annual Report and CSR Report for the period between 1 January and 31 December 2014. For the fifth time in a row, it is being published as an online report, the full version of which is available in Finnish, Swedish and English. Veikkaus publishes its Annual Report and CSR Report once a year. The previous report was published on 13 March 2013. The report is intended for Veikkaus' stakeholders.

This report presents all of the key financial indicators, the financial statements and the various aspects of corporate responsibility: economic, social and environmental. The online report comprises six sections: Veikkaus 75 years, Veikkaus 2014–2015, Business Operations, Responsible Operator, Governance, and Financials.

Social responsibility, with regard to both the customers and the personnel, forms the core of Veikkaus' operations. Economic responsibility focuses primarily on analysing our success in promoting the common good. Environmental responsibility at Veikkaus is increasingly goal-oriented.

Veikkaus' management has laid down CSR perspectives and defined the role responsibility plays in our business operations, together with determining the importance the different aspects of social responsibility have for Veikkaus as a company and our stakeholders. Whilst evaluating the materiality, we have paid attention to different surveys conducted and the feedback received, and the results of an extensive stakeholder survey made in 2014. The objective of the materiality evaluation is to analyse the most important issues in Veikkaus' corporate social responsibility, on the basis of which the CSR and the related reporting are developed.

The report covers Veikkaus' operations in their entirety. The calculating principles are described in conjunction with the key figures. If a key figure’s method of calculation has changed considerably, this will be separately indicated. If any anomalies have been found in figures from previous reports, a correction will be noted alongside that figure.

The information contained in the economic responsibility section is based on Veikkaus' financial reports, game system, accounting, and approved financial statements. The key social responsibility figures come from Veikkaus' customer database, HR data systems, payroll systems, game system, service providers, and accounting. The environmental responsibility indicators were obtained mainly from Veikkaus’ service providers.

For eleven years, Veikkaus has complied with the reporting recommendations of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI, G3). Veikkaus conducts its reporting in compliance with the reporting guidelines for unlisted government companies issued by the Council of State, applying the materiality principle (Government Decision-in-Principle on the State's Ownership Policy, issued on 3 November 2011). The personnel indicators have been calculated according to the general instructions issued by the Accounting Standards Board. The Corporate Governance section complies with the applicable sections of the Finnish Corporate Governance Code, as well as with the ownership policy guidelines issued by the Ministry of Education and Culture. Veikkaus’ tax footprint is now reported for the first time (in accordance with the guidelines concerning companies with the government as the majority shareholder issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on 1 October 2014). The financial statements have been prepared according to the IAS/IFRS standards.

We have self-declared our reporting to be Application Level B+ of the GRI G3 Guidelines. PricewaterhouseCoopers Oy has checked our reporting and has confirmed it to be Application Level B+. The numerical CSR information in the company's Finnish-language CSR Report has been assured by an independent third-party, PricewaterhouseCoopers Oy for the seventh time, and the congruence between the English and Swedish versions has been checked.
